Performance Grade exams

We are now offering Performance Grade exams every month. Please check here for dates and fees. We are extending the introductory 15% discount for these exams so that it applies to all remotely-assessed Performance Grade and ARSM exams in 2021. Just enter code ABPG15MO when you book. Please also read our terms and conditions here.

Grade 5 Music Theory waiver (not applicable in the UK & Ireland)

We are extending our Grade 5 Music Theory waiver until 23 May 2021. This means that candidates with a Grade 6 to 8 Performance Grade exam submission date up to and including 23 May can take their exam without first passing Grade 5 Music Theory. We are making this exceptional arrangement to allow candidates who have been unable to take an exam in recent months to progress with their learning. From 24 May, the Grade 5 Music Theory requirement will return. For exam dates/exam submission dates after 23 May, all candidates taking a Grade 6 to 8 Performance or Practical Grade must first pass Grade 5 Music Theory.

Welcome to Cello Practice Partner

Cello Practice Partner is a simple way to make practising pieces for your ABRSM exam more musical, enjoyable and fun. It is useful for anyone learning or teaching pieces from the ABRSM Cello Exam Pieces 2020-2023 at Grades 1–5.

What is Cello Practice Partner?

Cello Practice Partner lets you practise the Cello exam pieces at Grades 1–5 along with the accompaniment, solo part or both parts together. Slow down or speed up the music to practise at a tempo that suits you and set loops around tricky passages. Cello Practice Partner is free to download, with in-app purchases available for each individual piece or selections for each grade.

The app comes with one example piece from Grade 1 of the Cello Exam Pieces 2020–2023 so you can evaluate the app before purchasing any pieces. Download it from the App Store or Google Play Store.

How can I use Cello Practice Partner?

Cello Practice Partner lets you play along with real musicians’ performances, exactly as recorded or at a reduced tempo. The app will help you to:

  • Become familiar with the accompaniment and understand how the solo line fits with the piano part for more secure performances. Never miss a cue again!
  • Slow down or speed up the music to a tempo that suits you, for slow careful practice.
  • Listen closely to the Cello in isolation to hear every detail of the expert performance.
  • Repeat tricky passages by setting loops around them.
