Practical Update

We appreciate how much the cancellation of our exams has affected learners and we are working hard on solutions to ensure learners can gain their qualifications at the earliest opportunity.

However, on the basis of official and local advice due to COVID-19, we have made the decision to cancel all Practical exams in Macau until further notice. This decision affects all 2020 bookings for Graded Music Exams, ARSM, Diploma, Choral Singing and Ensemble exams, but does not currently affect any bookings for Music Theory exams. Following this decision, we will process 100% refunds for all existing Practical exam bookings and our Representatives will provide further guidance in due course.

We are sorry for the impact on teachers and candidates and thank you for your loyalty and support while these restrictions remain in place. We are continuing to review when live Practical exams can resume in Macau and will offer them again at the earliest possible opportunity.

Our new remotely-assessed Performance Grades provide an alternative progression route for students during this period of disruption. The Performance Grades are equivalent to our Practical Grades in demand, recognition and value. They are based on the same repertoire and syllabuses, assessment criteria and quality assurance measures as our existing exams and will be assessed by the same highly trained examiners. Booking will open in Macau before the end of the year and you can record your video submission any time from now on. Find out more here.

Welcome to Aural Trainer

Meffys Award Winner 2012Our award-winning app offers an exciting way for students to practise aural skills and is now available for Grades 1 to 8.

Through a series of interactive challenges, users can learn to identify and describe musical features and differences quickly and accurately. Together, Aural Trainer 1-5 and Aural Trainer 6-8 cover all the individual elements of ABRSM aural tests including sight–singing and echo tests. Aural Trainer can be used anytime and anywhere to prepare effectively for exams or develop your aural skills.

ABRSM Aural Trainer is compatible with iPhone®, iPod touch® and iPad®.

What is ABRSM Aural Trainer?

Aural TrainerThe official ABRSM Aural Trainer is a useful app which features interactive challenges to develop your aural skills and make aural practice more engaging. Anyone can use it, but it is designed around the aural component of ABRSM graded music exams.

Aural Trainer is not designed to replace conventional approaches to aural practice but to supplement them. It allows personal practice between lessons, without access to a piano, wherever and whenever the user wishes. It’s the perfect way to fit short bursts of practice into your normal routines .

How can I use the ABRSM Aural Trainer?

ABRSM Aural Trainer can be used whenever and wherever you want to practise your aural skills. It can be used by students for personal practice or teachers in lessons as a way of developing core aural skills.

The exercises in Aural Trainer all use ABRSM exam standard material but allow the user to approach it in different ways. Users can practice features on their own or in small combinations before attempting exam style questions.

Aural Trainer allows you to repeat exercises as often as you like, without the feeling that it is essential to get them right first time! If you want to, you can listen to exercises once without responding then select ‘try again’ to give your response. Aural Trainer provides tools for you to review and evaluate your performance against sample responses; it also marks exercises and offers feedback to help you develop your skills.
